Houston CCS Alliance Discusses Workforce Opportunities for CCS with Technical Educators
The Alliance presented at the American Technical Education Conference on October 17 in Pasadena, which brought together higher education professionals from across the nation to learn about innovative energy technologies like CCS and gather ideas on adapting their curriculum to prepare students to be successful in a changing energy industry.
We spoke with teachers, administrators and industry leaders about the important role CCS will play in decarbonizing power production and manufacturing as the energy landscape adapts to meet demand for sustainable energy production and low-carbon products. As adoption of CCS grows throughout our region, technical educators will be on the frontlines of training the technicians and skilled workers needed to operate and maintain carbon capture, transportation, and storage infrastructure.
A recent study from the Texas Association of Business found that CCS projects will create or support approximately 7,500 good-paying jobs, with average salaries around $45 per hour. As was emphasized to conference attendees, Houston can be a global leader in scaling CCS because we have all the right ingredients, including a highly skilled workforce and experienced educators.
Through our sustained community engagements efforts, we want Houston?s workforce and educators to know that CCS isn?t an aspiration, but an innovation that is already growing and making a difference along the Gulf Coast. The Houston CCS Alliance and its member companies are eager to continue building relationships with our local educators at all levels and ensuring that Houston?s workforce is well-equipped to thrive in the energy transition.
