US Dept. of Commerce Case Study Spotlights Houston CCS Alliance as a Global Model for Community-Minded CCS Development
The US Department of Commerce?s Commercial Law Development Program recently released its CCUS Handbook for Policymakers, featuring a case study recognizing the Houston CCS Alliance as a model of outstanding community engagement and points to several recent events as examples of best practices for involving local voices in the decision-making process. The Handbook provides a comprehensive guide for government officials from around the globe to enact policy and regulatory frameworks that support the development of carbon capture and storage technologies.
The Houston CCS Alliance?s inclusion highlights the more than 30 public discussions and roundtables we?ve held. The Department of Commerce also spotlighted our efforts to reach Spanish speakers through our bilingual resources and educational videos, the supportive statements we?ve garnered from local elected officials, and our positive media coverage in Southeast Texas.
The case study highlighted the important role Houston will play in emissions reduction efforts, using one of the Alliance?s infographics to illustrate the Houston region?s capacity to reduce industrial CO2 emissions equal to two New York Cities annually.
The Houston CCS Alliance is honored to be included in the US Department of Commerce?s CCUS handbook as an example of how community engagement can help move low-carbon solutions forward while fostering relationships with local communities.
